Kudos to the BBW Woman

Most people have their own personal concept of what “sexy” is. The umbrella of “sexy” covers many ideals. Over the years, the perceptions of individuals gradually shapes the perceptions of society as a whole, which in turn shapes the perceptions of individuals. This gradual circle of perceptual shifting is how we grow as a society. Sometimes the shifts are for the better, and some are for the worse. Sex, for most of the twentieth century, was considered to be a topic that should not be discussed in polite company. The victorian era made the discussion of sex a taboo. But coupled with the ascension of the film industry as an entertainment media for the masses a profound shift on society mores resulted.  The movie industry had a penchant for picking stars that were very slender compared to the norms of the time. The explanation was quite legitimate. There is an optical illusion with cameras that seems to add pounds to anyone on camera, so slimmer stars off camera looked normal on-camera.  As these stars were seen more and more in public, and because these stars were all promoted as sex symbols, society gradually shifted its idea of sexy from voluptuous to thin.

Throughout history, voluptuous women were preferentially sought out by men. Larger women were idealized as child bearers, and offspring were a necessity in hunter-gatherer and agricultural societies. During the last ice age, cave dwelling people in Europe created figurines of large women goddesses. Their ideal of the embodiment of a fruitful and renewing life. In the play “Fiddler on the Roof”, which is a story about russian peasant society at the turn of the twentieth century, one of the songs depicts a rich man's wife as having a “proper double chin”. In other words, for much of history, being portly was a status symbol, because it proved you had plenty to eat, and therefore must be well to do.

Towards the end of the twentieth century, there has been a lot of immigration from many various world cultures into north America. These cultures are helping to shift the perception of western society of desirable women away from willowing figures and towards the more fuller figured woman.  BBW women are back in vogue. Who knows, maybe in a few more years, Hollywood hotties will be big beautiful women. Similar to Mae West in the 20's and 30's, you are starting to see fuller figured women enjoy a revival in Hollywood again.

Society is undergoing another shift so that skinny boy figures are less acceptable and voluptuous naturally endowed women are back in fashion. With plastic surgery, big boobs are back in style, even on skinny women. Push up bras, even some with triple padding, are hot selling items among younger ladies, but when their male companions see them naked on, the jig (jug?) is up.  Men are let down with falsie types.  So, many men now look at more naturally enhanced women, so voluptuous is back in vogue.  And on that note, who is more voluptuous than a BBW?
